Autumn capsule wardrobe – time to bring it out of hibernation
As the memories of days spent relaxing in the garden start to fade, it feels a little sad to be waving a goodbye to summer. Because although our summer weather can be unpredictable, we still make the most of it and get outdoors come rain or shine, don’t we? In leaving summer behind though, we find there’s a certain joy that comes with the change to autumn. From all the changes in nature like the colours of the trees, to the home comforts like putting the heating on. And digging out your autumn capsule wardrobe too!
Before we talk more about the essential items in your autumn capsule wardrobe, let’s take a moment to talk about how we embrace the season in our homes… because autumn really does allow you to loll in that ultimate cosy feeling. We’re fans of a proper fire here at The Wide Welly Company HQ and as soon as the opportunity arises, we get the fire lit. The glow from seasonal scented candles is also high on the list of autumnal must haves and cosy blankets too. And let’s not forget the trusty slow cooker and delicious casseroles that tease us with their aroma as they cook during the day.
Key items in your autumn capsule wardrobe
In readiness for the seasonal changes, it’s the perfect time to dig out your essential clothing for the time of year. Here are a few key items which we think should be staples in your wardrobe and drawers.
We couldn’t write about autumn and not mention lovely soft, warming knitwear, could we? Perfect for throwing on when it’s a bit chilly outside, but not cold enough for a coat we love a longline cardigan. Or for evenings on the sofa, pull on an oversized chunky knit jumper. And what about being out and about? A knitted dress can look smart but be comfy too.
We’re partial to a knee-length denim skirt here, but longer pleated skirts are really in style, so it’s possibly time we invested in one of those for the autumn 2021 season.
Whether you’re a lover of straight or loose fit, a really good pair of jeans can be worn all season. Dress them up with a pair of heels for a night out, or if you’re heading out for a brisk walk in the countryside, tuck them into your wellies with wide calf and enjoy your stroll in comfort.
And for your feet?
Whilst we’re talking about wellies, we’re going to indulge a little here and say it’s time to dig your wide fit wellies out of hibernation. If you didn’t clean them before you popped them away for the warmer months (don’t worry, we won’t judge you!) then rinse off any excess mud or dirt and make sure they’re dry. Remove any socks that you may have left inside them (don’t deny it…we know it happens). You’ll then be officially dog walk, country walk, jumping in muddy puddles ready!
An all-weather coat
With the unpredictability of our weather, having a coat to hand is a must. Whether it’s a raincoat or trench coat, we find a coat is always a sound investment.
Staple pieces for your autumn wardrobe
I hope this blog has inspired you to go and take a peak at your existing autumn wardrobe. And if you’ve spotted any gaps then you might even be able to treat yourself to a new item of clothing.
And if it’s footwear you’re in need of, then take a look at our range of ladies adjustable wellies. They’re snug to the foot with wiggle room at the top.
