Practical fashion – our all weather festival style guide

Heading to a festival this summer? Perhaps you’ve got Glastonbury in your sights or you’re going to Latitude or Parklife. Or for family friendliness you’re camping at the Just So festival. Whichever it is, have you thought yet what you’ll wear? Because it must be practical fashion – it needs to fit in a small bag and be suitable for all weathers.

Whilst we’d love to think that your festival weekends will be filled with sunshine and warmth, we do live in the UK. And that means, always planning for the occasional downpour, doesn’t it?

Festival outfit ideas

Combining the festival style trends with practical accessories

We see the glossy magazines suggesting festival fashion pieces like floating midi dresses in ditsy prints, halter neck tops, dungarees, dad t-shirts, flared trousers in retro patterns…the list is endless. And they look amazing when the weather is fine. So how can you combine these trends with practical fashion? We think it’s all in the accessories and apparel. With just a few additional items to your outfit, you can keep on trend whilst keeping dry. Here are some of our tips.

Bomber jackets are big this summer and they look great over dresses, but are they waterproof? Possibly not. So, pack a lightweight poncho just in case. It won’t ruin your outfit but will keep it dry!

Choose a rainbow umbrella hat to shield you from the sun and the rain.

You can have so much fun with hats, can’t you? We think they’re one of the festival fashion essentials. Whether it’s a cap, bucket hat or trilby they look great and they can keep your head dry in a storm too…especially the rainbow umbrella hats!

Head scarves or bandanas

Keep your hair off your face, whilst embracing that festival style.

And whilst we’re talking about hats, for those of you with longer hair styles, don’t forget head scarves can keep your hair out of your face, whilst embracing that festival style. We love some of the patterned styles that are about (big surprise, we love a pattern!)

Walking boots or wellies are a practical option in muddy fields.

If the weather is looking great, then flip flops, trainers or flatforms are going to be your go to footwear of choice. But with our practical fashion heads on, we think walking boots or wellies would be a much safer option. Because who wants to be in a muddy field in their flip flops? Not us! And if you choose wide calf wellies, you can even tuck your flared trousers into them so that your festival style doesn’t get ruined.

Fun and stylish practical fashion

So you see you can be on trend with your festival outfit whilst still being practical. Just a couple of extra items will keep you dry should there be some rain.

If you haven’t managed to get tickets for a festival, but still want to embrace the feeling, throw a festival at home. You can read our ideas to create a music festival at home in our blog.
