Treat mum at Christmas – tips to help her through the festive period

It’s that time of year when things start to get a little bit frazzled for our lovely mums. If she’s not cleaning the house ready to put the Christmas tree and decs up, she’s planning the big family dinner.  Or writing lists of presents for the kids…and where to hide the elf on the shelf. Phew it’s exhausting just thinking about it. So how will you treat mum at Christmas?

You’re probably thinking about the big day and Christmas gift ideas for mum. That’s great as she deserves something special to unwrap (like a pair of ladies’ winter wellies 😉). But we also thought how nice it would be if you could help mum during this busy month and make the whole festive period a little more special.

Tips to treat mum at Christmas

So here are some of our hints to help you relieve some of mum’s stress and create some special memories at the same time.

Watch a Christmas film together

Treat mum at Christmas

This is the perfect idea for when you’ve finished putting the Christmas tree and decorations up. Grab some warm popcorn, snuggle under a blanket and watch your favourite family Christmas movie. Full of festive vibes!

A family festive walk

Time to pop on the big coats, warm hats, gloves and (of course) wide calf wellies and head out for a walk. Even if it’s just for an hour or so, mum will enjoy spending the time outdoors with you. Plus, it’s a good way to burn off some of those extra Christmas calories!!

Surprise her with a festive plant

Most mums like receiving flowers, but they can be pricey, can’t they? So how about surprising her with a Poinsettia plant? Most supermarkets sell them, and they won’t break the bank. But they will bring a smile to mum’s face. And add a touch of festive colour to a room.

Help in the kitchen

Treat mum at Christmas

If your mum is the sort who likes to cook from scratch, then chances are she’s already made the Christmas cake. She may be thinking about making pastry for mince pies, or when she’ll make the stuffing and pigs in blankets for Christmas day. Why not ask if you can help? Pop some festive tunes on the radio and bake together. Something you will both look back on in years to come. And if baking’s not your thing, then how about being chief washer upper?

Create an ‘Advent Jar of Love’

This idea is simple and is guaranteed to make mum grin from ear to ear. Write little notes about what you love about your mum, then pop them in a jar. Think of one for everyday throughout December and it will make her advent very special indeed.
