Welcome to The Wide Welly Company. We design wellies for real legs — thoughtfully made, comfortable to wear, and constructed with care.

The Wide Welly Company was born from a simple, familiar frustration: most wellies are narrow through the calf, awkward to get on, and uncomfortable to wear. If you’ve ever wrestled with boots that simply weren’t designed for your shape, you’ll know exactly how that feels.

Verity, The WWC founder, observed this  — particularly for women — and decided there had to be a better way. In 2015, The Wide Welly Company was born, with one clear aim: to create wellies that fit properly, without compromise.

Living by the coast on the Wirral, Verity spends much of her life in wellies — walking on the beach or down The Wirral Way, gardening in all weathers, and generally getting on with everyday life. That practical experience shapes everything we do. Our wellies aren’t designed to look good on a shelf; they’re designed to be worn.

Designed with fit in mind

Our tall wellies feature a generous calf fit, a functional gusset that allows the leg to expand comfortably, and an adjustable cam buckle — a design detail we’re particularly proud of. Once adjusted, the buckle stays put, so there’s no need for constant readjustment while you’re out and about.

Every pair is made using a 50% natural rubber compound, giving a thicker, more durable boot than many standard high-street wellies. Verity has a background in manufacturing and a long-standing interest in quality control, and over the years she has worked closely with production partners to continually refine the product. We may be at 50% natural rubber today — but improvement is always part of the plan.

Because of the added gusset and adjustable strap, there’s a significant amount of hand work involved in making each pair. From cutting the rubber and fabric components to assembling the straps and buckles, the process is detailed and labour intensive — and that care shows in the finished boot.

Comfort underfoot

We’ve also paid close attention to comfort inside the boot. Many customers prefer to use their own orthotics, so our wellies are designed to accommodate them easily. For those who don’t, we now include two insole options, allowing you to choose the feel that suits you best. The right insole can make a real difference to comfort and fit, and we like to give you that choice.

Style, without fuss

While fit and function come first, we don’t believe practical has to mean boring. Verity designs every style herself, drawing inspiration from her surroundings — sometimes bright and playful, sometimes simple and understated. Whether you love a bold pattern or just want a classic boot that does its job well, there’s something here for you.

A thoughtful approach to wellies

We’re also fascinated by how feet and calves are changing over time. Modern footwear habits mean many of us have wider feet and legs than previous generations, and we believe wellies should reflect that reality — not fight against it.
